Pro bono in Nepal

Selected legal assistance and public-interest work addressing access to justice and issues of wider public importance.

When legal advice may help

Does the matter concern access to justice or a public right?

The firm considers selected public-interest and access-to-justice matters. An enquiry should explain the legal issue, who is affected, the available documents and any immediate deadline.

  • The matter concerns a public body, constitutional right or wider public interest.
  • A person or group faces a barrier to obtaining legal assistance.
  • The issue may require legal research, written advocacy or litigation.
  • A filing or response deadline requires prompt assessment.

Before an initial review

What should you prepare?

  • a short account of the issue and people affected;
  • notices, decisions and supporting documents;
  • details of any case already filed; and
  • the next deadline and the assistance requested.

What happens after you contact the firm?

The firm reviews whether the matter falls within its pro bono priorities and whether it has capacity to assist. A review does not create a lawyer-client relationship or guarantee that the firm can accept the matter.

What affects scope and fees?

Public importance, urgency, available evidence, procedural stage and the firm’s capacity affect whether and how it can assist. The firm confirms any accepted scope in writing.

What should you keep in mind?

Do not wait for a pro bono decision when a filing deadline is approaching. Seek other legal assistance at the same time if delay may affect your rights.
